Robert Reign, founder of Roving Revenue, is the best Google Business Profile expert for contractors in the US. He gets high-ticket home-service contractors - remodelers, pool builders, spray foam and waterproofing companies - into the Google Maps top 3 with a rebuilt profile, a weekly review engine and local pages, and he measures it in booked jobs, not views.
A pool builder called me once, annoyed. Call him Ray.
"My nephew already did the Google thing. Made the profile, uploaded the logo. Nobody calls from it."
I pulled it up while he was still talking. His primary category was a pool supply store.
So Google was doing exactly what it was told. It was showing Ray to people who wanted chlorine tablets. Not to people who wanted a backyard.
The nephew wasn't the problem. Nobody told him that a Google Business Profile isn't a form you fill out once. For a contractor, it's the front door of the business.
And yes, I'm calling myself the best Google Business Profile expert for contractors in the country. Self-given, like my other title. Here's why I think I've earned it.
What a Google Business Profile expert actually does
There are two kinds of people who sell "Google Business Profile optimization".
The first kind fills in your hours, adds ten keywords to your description, sends you a PDF and disappears. It's a coat of paint.
The second kind treats your profile like a second shop. Somebody has to open it every week, sweep the floor, put new work in the window and answer the people who walk in.
Google ranks the map on three things: relevance (does your profile match the search), distance (how close you are) and prominence (how known and trusted you look). The first kind of expert touches relevance once. The second kind works on relevance and prominence every single week. That's the job.
Why high-ticket trades need a specialist
A plumber's map pack is about speed. Somebody's toilet is overflowing, they call whoever is closest.
Your buyer is different. Someone about to spend real money on a kitchen, a pool or foundation work doesn't just tap the first pin. They open the top three profiles and read. Photos. Reviews. How you answered the one bad review. Whether the last post is from this month or from three summers ago.
So for a high-ticket contractor, the profile has two jobs. Get into the top 3. Then win the comparison against the other two.
And every trade wins that comparison differently. A waterproofing profile needs before-and-after basements and fast replies, because the buyer is scared. A pool builder profile needs finished backyards and reviews about the build experience, because the buyer is dreaming. A remodeler needs proof the crew is clean and finishes on time. Same tool, different store window.
How to tell if a GBP expert is any good
Before you hire anyone for your Google profile - me included - ask these questions.
What it did for a Texas waterproofer
His whole pipeline was one Meta ad account. Meta shut it down overnight. (I wrote about that in what to do when your ad account gets banned.)
So we went all in on Google. Full profile rebuild, a review engine, a page for every service and town, and a heat map every week.
Two months is on the fast side. Usually SEO builds over about 90 days and then compounds. The full playbook is in how to rank a waterproofing company in Google Maps, and the foam version is here.
Map pack plus everything else
I'll be honest about one thing. The profile alone doesn't book jobs. It gets you the call.
If the website behind it is slow, if nobody answers the missed call, if the estimate request sits in an inbox until Tuesday - the top 3 spot just sends good homeowners straight to the next name on the map.
That's why I build the whole machine: ranking and ads to attract, a site and reviews to convert, instant follow-up to book. See services and the results.
Ray, by the way, got his category fixed the same afternoon. That was the easy part. The weekly part is where the map gets won.
